History
Friends of Port Maria(FOPM) Inc, New York Chapter was established in June of 1996 as a not-for-profit organization. The organization has the 501(C) tax exempt status.
Mission
Assist in the overall development of Port Maria, Jamaica and its surrounding communities to improve the quality of life.
Vision Statement
To help create an environment where a satisfactory level of educational, economical, and health-care opportunities are available to all in the Port Maria area.

- In partnership with UJAA, FOPM donated Learnit tablets and computers
- Contributed to Port Maria Primary School’s building fund for repairs related to flooding
- Sponsored the X High School Graduate Awards
- Sponsored the X School Leaving Ceremony providing prizes to the top boy and girl; second girl and boy; and third girl and boy for the first year ever
- Enlisted Carpenter Gladstone Carty to build the field board for the Lego League Program
- Distributed holiday bags composed of cooking essentials to the needy

- Gathered enough items to serve 300+ persons in local communities while being coordinated by Dr Dawn Silvera-Ndure
- Sponsored the Top Girl and Boy at Port Maria Primary School Leaving Ceremony with a donation of $40,000 JMD for each
- Distributed twenty-four holiday baskets to very needy families this past Christmas
- Partnered w/ UJAA (for first time) in purchasing 6 computers and 18 tablets to be allocated to 5 primary/infant schools in and around Port Maria, St Mary. Distribution effective January 2021

2018
- In August, hosted 4 Medical Missions – one at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Port Maria; Mason Hall Anglican Church; Preston Hill Roman Catholic Church; and Church of Christ in Galina. FoPM served 204 persons combined;
- Partnered with graduates of Mason Hall Primary to make a donation to the school;
- Sponsored the Top Girl and Boy at the Port Maria Primary’s School Leaving Ceremony with a
donation of $300 (US) each - Partnered with community residents in Port Maria, who distributed two dozen holiday baskets to families at Christmas.
